Wind Energy

Where do we obtain our energy?

 Hello there!

Have you ever asked yourself "Where does the light and heat at home come from?". Well, of that's your case you should keep reading.

To get light and heat we need energy and this energy has to come from an energy source, right?

So nowadays we have plenty of energy sources. These can be classified into renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Here we will talk about the most widely used.

The most exploited renewable sources are:

- Solar energy

Solar energy is derived by capturing radiant energy from sunlight and converting it into heat, electricity, or hot water.

- Wind energy

Wind farms capture the energy of wind flow by using turbines and converting it into electricity.

- Hydroelectric energy

Dams are what people most associate when it comes to hydroelectric power. Water flows through the dam’s turbines to produce electricity.

The most exploited non-renewable energy sources are:

- Petrol

Petrol is extracted from the underground and it's burnt as a fuel. It is commonly known as fossil fuel because it comes from dead plants and animals from millions of years ago.

- Coal

It is similar to petrol as it's also a fossil fuel, but this time it's solid and can be found in sediments. It is also burned to get energy with the combustion.

- Natural gas

Its is another fossil fuel and is also found underground. We also get its energy through combustion.

- Nuclear energy

Nuclear energy comes from splitting atoms in a reactor to heat water into steam, turn a turbine and generate electricity.

So well, these are the most common energy sources that we exploit nowadays, but, if still you are interested in this topic here you can watch a video of the energy sources of the future made by the YouTube channel TDC
